Kindly suggest an email hosting service that is privacy oriented and also resellable

Hello everyone,

I recently got a familyname.com domain to provide my family members and me with firstname@familyname.com emails so that I can move my family away from Gmail and Outlook. They are not interested in Proton as it is just another mail app. Plus, the custom domain options for families are pricier for me.

A relative who shares our family name asked about this domain email and if he and his brother could buy an email address from me for $1 per month to use it.

So I was wondering if any privacy-based email service allows me to self-host email on a server with a custom domain and add aliases with a storage limit, like, say, 1 GB per email or something.

I’ve seen Mailbox.org but I did not understand their alias option if it restricts a person to not view others emails or not.

When it comes to Swiss-based provider like Proton, but with unlimited domains and addresses, Migadu comes to my mind.
You can read their privacy policy here:

Thank you for replying, ytra. I have been through their website, and it is pretty good. However, they are saying emails are not encrypted. Is that a reason why they are not suggested on PG, even though they are Swiss-made?

Take a look at Forward Email.

Thank you, Lukas. It says the applicable governing law is Delaware, US. Is it a privacy issue if I choose this provider?

No.

Because I believe migadu does not meet PG criteriums.

Here is what PG writes for emails:

“Email is practically a necessity for using any online service, however we do not recommend it for person-to-person conversations. Rather than using email to contact other people, consider using an instant messaging medium that supports forward secrecy.”

Hence, you can take a look at Real-Time Communication section:

Not sure what exactly are you asking but all the alias email are independent. You can use all aliases to send emails too. A third party won’t know your other email aliases if you respond from one.

Yes I’ve seen that they do not encrypt email at all. No encryption means not so private even if its a Swiss made service.

I mean like if I am the main administrator and create aliases like

family1@email.com
family2@email.com
friend1@email.com

Then all three parties and also myself as admin shouldn’t be able to see other peoples emails at all. I don’t even want them to know each others email address also here.

No , you can only do this in team plan i guess.
For individuals you will only have 1 inbox and 1 login id, from where you can manage all the alias emails.

In team plan you could add other accounts as part of your team and assign them domains i guess and configure who can see them.

Why wouldn’t you consider using private instant messengers for family communication?

Hi Endorse,

My apologies as I didn’t include the messaging part. The email setup is not for communication but for having email that isn’t related to gmail or outlook. They need emails for office stuff and signups for any online websites etc. For messaging, I got them to install Signal after a lot of debate and shit with everyone about why Whatsapp is bad etc.
