Kensington Security Lock for my home (not public settings) useful / recommended?

You have to understand the psychological profile of people who break in to houses. It’s typically going to be young males (about age 18) or addicts to serious drugs, and they are looking for a quick in and out with valuables. Thus, you should not assume that these people are bright thinkers who are coming prepared. Small deterrents may be enough for certain things. If you put yourself in their shoes, if they encounter a tiny lock on a laptop they will probably try to rip it out and if it doesn’t rip out they will probably leave it behind. I think you would have better results by hiding the laptop or better yet, leaving out a dummy old laptop that is not valuable, and hiding your real laptop.
