Japan Law Will Require Apple to Allow Non-WebKit Browsers on iPhone

A significant victory for Japanese iPhone users!

While similar regulation has been made by the EU’s Digital Markets Act, the Japanese law has gone further in banning “unreasonable technical requirements” for implementation. This means that while no non-WebKit browsers are available for EU residents, Japan may see the rise of Cromite and Vanadium-esque alternatives. That is, if anyone actually develops them for the Japanese market.

What do you think about WebKit anyways? Even if Blink-based browsers are introduced to the iPhone, would there be any interest in developing a hardened browser?
