This thread discusses research demonstrating that strangers can extract delivery receipts from their targets (any other Signal user) using invalid messages without being detected by the target user, which could be used to infer information about the target including the number of linked devices, some location information and online status. This may be a good reason not to publicly reveal a Signal username.
