Indian Govt. Issues SIM Binding Directions To WhatsApp and Other Messaging Apps

I am aware of it but I prefer the opposite when it’s about my country lol.

There’s hardly any outcry especially for things like this. Instead, people actually support and want more of this shit. Ofc that’s just my perspective but it is somewhere rooted in reality.

I know this story is not very recent, but I don’t think Signal would have a choice if it’s the law. I’m not comfortable with the idea of companies respecting laws in one country but not in another. So even if I hate this law, to me, they would have to comply.

All that being said, this is worrying, because with apps like Telegram, it’s easy to have your account linked to a number you don’t have access to anymore, even when you change devices. Because with Telegram, as long as you are logged in on one device, you will always be able to run the same account on a new device without a SIM card.

I created my Telegram account with a virtual American number years ago, and I have never had to verify my number again so far. I understand that using a number you no longer have access is risky, but it’s a risk I am willing to take as I don’t use Telegram for messaging friends and family, but simply keeping up to date with certain news outlets and app developers that are on it.
