Any way a site is able to determine my device IP?
Yes, through WebRTC technology. Enable WebRTC Slayer in the extension to resolve the leak.
Also be aware that the extension in Chrome leaks the DNS resolver of your ISP originating if you only use the extension OR your first hop if you have the application installed on the Desktop. This not affect Windscribe Extension in FF v133.
To solve the DNS leak problem in Brave
when using Windscribe Extension
go to brave://flags/#brave-adblock-cname-uncloaking
and switch to Disabled
. I tested it and it worked.
I found out through the recommendation of uBlock Origin, available here:
This recommendation applies to Brave
because of itsShield protection
:
For some unknown reason this does not apply to ProtonVPN Extension, which does not leak its DNS provider even with this setting enabled, in default post-install mode.
Please do your research before making this change and make an informed decision about how it might affect the security or privacy of your Brave Browser.
It still works normally in Firefox (FF), just remember to always activate WebRTC Slayer when installing Windscribe Extension.
