Google and Amazon struck secret deal to shield Israel from legal scrutiny, leak reveals

A joint investigation by multiple media outlets has revealed that Google and Amazon entered into secret agreements with the Israeli government to shield Israel from international legal scrutiny. Naturally, the Israeli government denies this, so the credibility remains unclear.

The cloud service contracts signed in 2021 reportedly included the following provisions:

  • If another authorities order the provision of Israel-related data, secretly notify Israel (by transferring a predetermined amount of money to notify them, leaving no communication records)
  • Permit uses normally prohibited (such as military or human rights violations)
  • Store data only within Israeli territory to evade disclosure orders from other countries
  • Do not suspend services regardless of any actions taken by Israel

I know we’ve normalized it by now but the level of these big tech companies’ unregulated involvement in politics is seriously insane.

This is where ideas of freedom clash with each other. What should or should not be allowed and what kind of freedoms should entities and people have or should not have.

It’s like the free speech crisis and stress tests in the US these days.

I don’t deny it’s possible–but Middle East Monitor definitely has biases and the article only links to their own articles.
