Hello everyone,

For years now, I’ve been using a Google account for my Android phone and YouTube.

Recently, however, I’ve noticed that there are more and more apps I apparently can’t access because—according to Google—my age hasn’t been verified. They aren’t sure if I’m of legal age—which, given how long the account has existed and the type of content I consume, is absolute nonsense. These are just completely normal apps.

Can any of you tell me how I can switch my account to 18+, or alternatively, where I can buy a verified 18+ account? I’m 30 years old, but I really don’t want to provide Google with any more personal data, ID documents, or anything of the sort…

Which apps are you referring to? I steer clear of anything “Google” related but I’ve yet to see any age verification from them specifically.

Never provide your identification to Google or any other big tech.

I don’t think I can be much help here without knowing the explicit detail to which you allude?

Did you not notice that many apps in the Google Play Store have been classified as “18+”?

A few years ago, Google classified a large number of apps as 18+. To even be able to see these apps in the Google Play Store, you have to disclose your identity to Google.

Many apps are classified as 18+—I am referring, for instance, to perfectly normal dating apps.

Google knows perfectly well that I am not a minor, but it uses this argument as a pretext to collect data.
