You appear to be more of an expert to I ask:
Do you think OP would benefit from rotating their Wireguard keys more often/at higher frequency? Does this impact the issues in any way?

that has no relevance here
Doesn’t ring a bell. ProtonVPN here.
for me it does
honestly its more like, I have to keep switching away from the fastest server primarily because of a game and a website, always switching to cyprus for them when I need to play them.
Not mentioning Apple App Store payments too
After reading the comments, I guess the only thing I can really say is that I stopped using services that cause me grief a long time ago..
Yeah…not going to stop using Costco, a search engine, my printers, and the ability to make phone calls.
Telling people to just “not use services that don’t support privacy” is an extremely wild and unhelpful take when the services in question are core life functionalities like food, and basic communication with the outside world. I’m not saying you are the only person doing this, as it’s a problem that is pervasive within the privacy community. But it is wild and unhelpful.
do you have the “local network sharing” option enabled?
I also have this issue regularly. I’ve already switched off of easy-to-switch services (like search engines) that give me trouble with my VPN, but it also happens for mission critical things like banking and government websites.
The most frustrating is TicketMaster. I hate TicketMaster, but they’re the only way to get tickets to any number of concerts, shows, and events, and I swear they have blocked every single exit node of Mullvad and Proton.
I’ve settled on having a separate browser that’s split tunneled outside of my VPN that I use for government and certain banking and e-commerce (such as TicketMaster).
That being said you shouldn’t have any issues with your printers as long as ‘local network sharing’ is turned on in Mullvad. That’s been 100% relaible for me.
The problem is definitely with your setup if you’re constantly having trouble with fundamental tasks. My point was that I barely use social media services, with the exception of Mastodon, which is very infrequent.
Cloudflare is widespread among personal websites in my country, and they use common settings for bot and security measures. These settings block major VPN providers (M247, Datapacket, xTom) based on ASN. This is causing most VPN services to stop working. However, ProtonVPN has many servers and seems to frequently change its exit IP address, so it sometimes evades Cloudflare’s ASN blocks.
For a smoother internet experience, I now purchase a residential proxy in my country and connect via a VPN router. However, their privacy policies and business practices are more sloppy than trusted VPN providers. So it seems that convenience comes at the expense of privacy and security…
That’s what I’ve done too, for websites like banking, medical stuff, and a few online retailers that know all my info anyway and are aggressive with blocking vpns.
In my experience ddg and searxng never ask for captchas
Downside to DDG is that if you have cookie blocking enabled in your browser, it forces the AI summaries on you, even if you’ve disabled it before. That’s why I stuck with Brave search over DDG, personally.
Brave allows you to selectively keep cookies on a per site basis with forgetful browsing
what is worse is that sometimes wikipedia pages never show up on the first page since they’ve added these
absolutely most annoying thing possible to have ai slop at the top of page and a bunch of blogspam slop below
Please just stop talking if you can’t even understand the gravity of the situation.
I personally play Umamusume, which I am not giving up, as this revolves around my friend group.
Meanwhile Hoyoverse games do not have this problem
ChilloutVR also has a problem with ProtonVPN unfortunately that im forced to disconnect it and none was able to figure out why. [Meanwhile Mullvad seems to work just fine]
Finally I use skroutz for my more local marketplace needs, often or sometimes depending on the category they provide better pricing than locally or even Amazon.
Foody also doesn’t play nicely with VPNs, unless again I connect it to my local country it seems so there’s that as well.
Yes even amazon works on (almost) any VPN Server without getting blocked so no it’s not about privacy services or not
that’s why I agree @DutchBaby, just saying “Don’t use them” and “Setup is your problem [Outside of the printer problem, that can/is likely to be a setup problem]” is super super unhelpful to the individual facing the issue and they have a reason to use them.
I started using Mullvads socks proxy on my Mac and on my Android phone and I’ve reduced the number of Captchas I get, it’s tolerable now….still get some here and there but not as much as before… SOCKS5 proxy
If the printers and other basic things aren’t working, the problem is in his setup.
they never said “basic thing isn’t working” they said, not in quote but in context “basic needs”, it does vary wildly on the context of “basic needs” but what they describe and I personally described is what I considered needs. Those usually also dont have alternatives so there’s that (and besides there’s no gaming alternative, either a game respects VPN, doesnt work for some reason on Proton or other or needs the specific country IP or doesn’t, it doesn’t go in between) For me I described gaming revolving around my friends and marketplaces. Kindly do not misrepresent words like that
