Forum: Deprecating Sign in With Apple & LinkedIn SSO

Oh yeah, makes sense!
I mean, the concern will be about the Sign ups anyway but the migration away is still important indeed. :+1:t2:

Passkeys would always remain since it isn’t third-party.

SimpleLogin maybe because I am not totally sure if the benefit is huge compared to just typing in your SimpleLogin email alias in the email box, but
 I don’t know :man_shrugging:

This accounts before creating a password is using simplelogin logged via the proton account and I found it very relatively convenient than generating an alias and a password
but I guess that’s just my opinion, does simplelogin have a cost too?

It’s probably free but it is a 3rd party that is not critical and tied to your Proton’s account (in this case).
We could skip it entirely. :+1:t2:

honestly yeah if it’s free I don’t see why it should be removed. But hey as I said I personally found it convenient

The main selling point is: why keeping a Simple login integration while you can just use the email input with SimpleLogin.

It’s not a 1-click thing to use a regular email form for sure, but it still introduces:

  • some maintenance that is not to be dismissed, can pile up quite quickly from a developer POV
  • more KYC than a regular email input
  • doesn’t add any extra features besides the slightly faster onboarding to some users
    • some people could also then ask for an Addy.io integration
    • or maybe another future with [new hot kid in town]
    • etc etc
while you could just have an email and use the alias that you do prefer the most
