Is the Firefox sandbox still weakened when Firefox is installed as flatpak? I read somewhere here that Chromium fixed this issue but what about Firefox? Most posts here that say the sandbox is weakened are old. Is this true still?
Yes
I might be totally wrong, but from my memory I believe Chromium just added support to use the Flatpak sandbox instead, which itself was considered weaker than Chromium’s sandbox. If that’s true, then sure they “addressed” it but it’d still be a weaker sandbox.
I haven’t seen that, but as far as I’m aware this is still true.
Chromium did not, but some packagers patched this together. It is not used and not vetted by Google.
AFAIK Chromium and/or Chrome does not have an official flatpak package anyway.
This doesn’t have to do with Firefox specifically, but it’s the best explanation on Flatpak sandboxes I’ve come across. It’s worth a read to understand the whole subject a little better.
