I love stuff like this … simple but elegant and potentially powerful.

LOL… for sure. I’ve been lurking a bit, but it’s time I get more involved here.

Such a cute and useful idea. Ente deserves to be more popular.

I can definitely see this expanding to a lot more user apps we use including but not limited to nudging users into better federated social media apps/platforms. I’m guessing this is just a proof of concept of this idea to see how it fairs.

I should probably make a post about it, but https://monnet.social/ is coming soon.

For once, this could be exciting and viable.

Interesting. Didn’t know about it.

Is that like Facebook but better? Also, they don’t mention anything about the platform itself being a private or a secure place. Just another social media platform but without the attributes big tech is proud of.

Also, I feel like any company still harping on and conflating EU and Europe with privacy and all those good things should stop doing that in light of all that’s going on with chat control and whatnot.

Find something else to be truly proud of EU.

More like a better, privacy-focused and pro user-choice (no algorithm oligarchy) Instagram/Tik-Tok alternative. And so, 100% Made in Europe. I still didn’t have the chance to have an access to the beta. But I should be able to do so next week.

It’s also worth mentioning that Monnet was publicly announced before the ongoing political mess (back in April 2025). Its founder (and I guess the whole team behind it) is very much against the Chat Control proposal.

I see. Thanks for the context.

If they are reading this, I hope they know or atleast understand that when they say privacy, it is often and reasonably so associated with some level of encryption and security that’s more than social media platforms have always provided.

The way to fix this issue with social media platforms as whole I think is to imagine if Signal was a social media platform - and go from there. This means, if the technology is available to make something truly private and secure, not doing it to truly be new, authentic and unique is tantamount to apathy toward the cause of privacy and security and the digital and online freedoms we all hold so dear - no matter what the platform runners or founders may believe. And hence makes it difficult if not impossible to really trust all that they claim this platform is about.

I can only agree with everything you said. I do hope to catch the founder on a call over the next few weeks, confronting him (in a friendly way) about these topics. It would be sad to end up with an advertising-focused product again, like what Meta has done for years with WhatsApp and Messenger (E2EE you say? Out loud? If only we could trust you guys. At all.).

Please do. And implore them to make changes to their advertising and how they are building it out. Humans have gone to the moon (with great resources I know). So this should not be too hard today since we have the tech that’s long been democratized for us to have no excuse to not build a truly private and algorithm and AI free social media platform that is people first - if the goal and cause still is privacy and security when it comes to any and all tech we use today.

I realize that the issue then becomes sustainability and monetization of the platform atleast for the people running it. And that’s a difficult problem to solve. Relying upon donations and minimal subscriptions is the only way I currently see it working. But please, if this is the case, be crypto and cash first along with having other payment processors in the mix.

Thank you very much. Awesome site.
