If I use a custom DNS and a VPN what information can websites and my ISP get that they could not through a VPN use alone? I just don’t want my ISP to be able to see what websites I visit and what I do on them.
Some info: I’m not worried about having a unique fingerprint. I currently have Adguard Pro VPN and nextDNS setup with HTTPS. But would the answer to my question vary based on what VPN I use?
Your ISP won’t be able to see what websites you’re visiting. Make sure however that your DNS is encrypted, or that your VPN routes DNS requests through the VPN tunnel. Otherwise your DNS queries might still be visible to your ISP - I’m not too sure how nextDNS works in this regard.
Websites can still gather data about you through cookies and other tracking methods though.
