Is a SSD over HDD a hard requirement for a monero server?
No. If you are willing to have very slow initial Monero sync times (days or weeks), you can use an HDD. I just don’t recommend it.
I was setting this up and got stuck on starting the monero lws. It never starts. I’m using truenas in docker on my proxmox host. Anyone esle run this way for this setup?
Do you see any logs for the monero-lws container? What specific monero-lws settings are you using?

@inp667 try deleting the Arti app (check remove the iX volumes and also force remove), then do a fresh install. Make sure to update the onion addresses for the Monero apps after since they will change with the reinstall.
Did this and sadly it did not work.
Do you have “Enable ACL” enabled for the Arti app? That should be unchecked like so:
If that doesn’t fix it, you can try making a manual dataset for the Arti app, like you made for the Monero blockchain using the guide. Make sure to assign the same ACL permissions. Then when installing Arti, change the “Type” to “Host Path” and choose the new Arti dataset folder you created.
The ACL was left alone and unchecked. I started over again and still not working. I will try to create another dataset to see if that works.
