Almost missed this:
I want this to be nice service but I wonder if those naughty SEO people will ruin this as well.
What are you worried the SEO people will do?
I was worried that they would let users affect other people’s search result:
Use of Rerank will not change domain presence or ranking for other users or on Brave Search as a whole—Rerank only applies for the users who choose to use the feature, and only on that user’s device. Rerank does this while upholding Brave’s industry-leading privacy promises. Rerank does not track users 1, and modifications can be cleared at any time in the search settings.
Thankfully they thought about it.
Oh, then there’s nothing to worry about. It just seems like a less granular version of Kagi’s rank personalizations: Kagi Search Stats
This is really great. So when you search, you now have a little icon that will show up and it will opens a list with the 20-ish top website for your query.
Then you can for example remove certain website with the dislike button.
Just keep in mind that the choices will apply to all search queries, not just for the one you just made.
What I would like though is being able to remove certain websites directly in the settings instead of having them appear on seach results.
On the contrary, this let you ban websites that abuse SEO techniques.
Is there any way to modify search engine results to prioritise webs without trackers and cookies?
You mean website?
For Brave, I don’t think so. I personally don’t mind cookies for this - I don’t view them as trackers since it’s just storing information about filters, not you.
If you want url-based preferences storing, there is always Mojeek, but the search quality isn’t as good for most queries.
