What are some industry-standard, time-tested, robust, free and open-source tools for fingerprinting or digital watermarking media files in order to track the source of leaks? To what extent are these tools or techniques effective? I assume there are counter-measures such as blurring, which seems to be quite effective?
Below are some tools I found (not all are free and open source), but I’m not sure how effective they are. There are all sorts of papers, github repos, and libraries on this topic, but I want one that is the industry standard that I can trust.
Well, seems like it’s time to build an enterprise-grade steganography FLOSS, don’t you think ?
As for my use case, I need to send media files that are sensitive in nature to multiple trusted entities, but there’s always a chance of them being leaked, either by cyberattacks, disgruntled employees, or bribery. I want a way to digital watermark those files so that we can trace the source of leakage. Ideally the digital watermarking can be applied to any kind of digital files or data, but I just don’t think it’s even theoretically sound.
