I don’t think stealth and kill switch options have any effect in this respect. If the browser you use allow tabs to maintain the connection to the website while they are in the background, the website could know that your ip changed even if you change vpn back before you bring the tab to the foreground again.
I don’t know if there are any browser that have a deliberate option to disallow background tabs to maintain connections / use bandwith.
