Are NewPipe‘s arguments against SponsorBlock garbage?

I think this is a stupid rule anyway.

There is no really usable way for a sponsor to determine how much to pay the creator without knowing how many people the creator gets to purchase the product.

And the information that “person X has watched this creator” without any additional information is not very invasive. And if you can buy the product in a privacy respecting way (mostly paying anonymously) then this issue would be mitigated entirely.

Considering that most sponsors that plague YouTube turn out to be garbage/scams, it is a pretty weird stance to have.

Kinda reminders me of this stance of mine

TLDR: block the hell out of everything and donate 1$ to the creators you like in the most direct way possible, they will get more out of it anyway.

Ads are having big cuts, brainwashes your viewers and nobody likes to be interrupted by some nonsense.

Typo here I guess? Double-negative.

No not a typo: It says

If they all‘d just accept Monero :face_without_mouth:

No, double because it refers to all the arguments as they all say it should skip the sponsored segments and NewPipe says it should not skip it.

It‘s hard to explain why double-negative fits there better than positive TBH but I stand with that I said.

Wow, reading this made me extra sad.
I do understand the why yet it’s meh. :frowning:

I understand if companies are annoying and you want to get away from them.
Yet, those 2 guys for example:

All they do is talk about stuff they do like on their free time and work hard for that.
I do understand that Patreon is not the best platform, maybe Kofi is better for sure.
But honestly, not everybody can code their own website/have a Monero wallet in our day and age and this should mean that those 2 guys are out of the loop…

Again, I do get the why but privacy indeed adds a lot of extra layers when it comes down to donations. :sob:

It‘s dum easy these day. Just go a free plan, claude, say website with what and finished.

And you don‘t even have to code a website, leaving a Monero code in the PeerTube video description would be enough. :slightly_smiling_face:

Why :face_with_raised_eyebrow: ?

I was reading yesterday how AI created sites are typically full of security holes. I suppose AI can get the grunt work done but someone, who knows what they are doing, has to fix all the AI’s mistakes.

I guess if it‘s just clear HTML it‘s very unlikely :slightly_smiling_face:

What do you think about

I wish just html was the norm.

This assumes a lot already. I do agree but not everything is as tech-savvy.
Moreover, you won’t be able to edit it and double-check that it is secure and works well. Which is kinda dangerous if you do plan on dealing with money/etc.

Same here, lots of assumptions on how to/why/where to even start.
I’m an IT developer but I do not have a Monero wallet yet myself.
For a few reasons but let’s say it’s not that trivial/simple given that there is quite some security implications.

Yeah, I mean if that’s what you call a website then sure.
It’s just a text registry tbh.

It is not. The norm is a bloated 2MB NextJS app.
Miles different from something nice, fine-tuned, pretty-ish and performant.

I mean, you can always AstroJS/Hugo/Jekyll or alike but again, that’s assuming you even know what those are in the first place.

Yeah OK I mean for those who are already tech-savvy.

Yeah, if you’re a senior developer, it’s easy to have a website duh. :joy:
The average population doesn’t have that innate skill on their resume alongside being a surgeon on the weekends and pro athlete on their 9-5. :squinting_face_with_tongue:

People I mentioned above are precisely just “normies” that love tech to some extent but not to reach a coding level kind of curiosity.
So Monero is not as simple as “install an app on your phone” and they probably aren’t aware of Ledger etc either. Hence not sure anybody even wants to take that risk in the first place.
