Apps fingerprinting on different platforms

Hi everyone!

After reading about apps being able to fingerprint profiles on Android, I became curious about the situation on other platforms like Linux, macOS, iOS, and Windows.

How fingerprintable are users on these platforms, and does it persist after application reinstall? On macOS, there’s no mandatory app sandboxing, so I’m curious to know how it performs in that environment.

I understand that QuebesOS with their appvms’ is considered the best option, but I’m interested in knowing about apps running on a single host.

I would guess system fingerprinting on Linux is the worst one so far.

On Linux, apps the same permissions as the user, so they can do anything the user can. Apps will persist after reinstalling if you don’t wipe their cache and config.
