I found Rotki which is selfhosted (and expensive) but it’s not good to manage old trades. I have added old trades and they don’t show up as assets because of how the app works. You have to manually add assets balance and you can’t see your performance on these old trades.
I have selfhosted Ghosfolio as well, but it lacks important features when dealing currency that’s not USD. If I make a purchase of LTC for 500000ARS I can’t set the custom price of ARS/USD on that particular date, which I can’t know my performance on the currency + crypto.
Do you have any other apps focused on privacy on portfolio tracking? Other than a excel spreadsheet…
Hey hey! Lefteris here, founder of rotki (disclosing my affiliation up front).
I want to clear up how rotki handles balances vs trades, because it trips a lot of people up and I think it’s at the root of what you ran into.
rotki doesn’t reconstruct your current holdings by replaying trade history. Balances come from live queries against the addresses and exchange accounts you’ve connected. Essentially whatever the chain or exchange says you hold right now is what shows up in the assets view. Historical trades feed into PnL, cost basis, and tax accounting, but they don’t change “what you own right now.” There is a very good reason for this. And that is in crypto with so many different kinds of actions and exchanges dying or even chains shutting down it’s very very easy to have incomplete information. In fact everyone does. So we need to separate historical balance calculation from actual balance calculation.
So when you added an old LTC trade and nothing appeared in the assets view, that’s the design rather than a bug. The trade is still being used, you’d see its effect in the PnL report and history views, not in the current balance.
I’ll be honest: this design choice trips enough people up that we’re now working on an opt-in mode that reconstructs balances from history, for people whose mental model expects that. It won’t replace the live-query approach (which is generally more accurate, since it reflects actual on-chain state), but it’ll be there for those who want it and more importantly will serve as a way to find out discrepancies. In an ideal world they shoudl both match but when they don’t you know you are missing history or that there is something wrong with the history of that particular asset.
