When I first setup GrapheneOS, I used my original Google account for Sandboxed Google Play. If I now switched out my account to a burner one, would that improve my privacy or just link the burner back to my main Google account, since Google will know which apps I have installed etc? Would it be more constructive to just remove information from my current Google account?
I wouldn’t think of it as a “burner” (that implies it’s a short-term, disposable account, not connected to you personally, w/ minimal personal info, which will not be the case if the Google account is tied to your personal smartphone and used for an extended period of time).
With that said, yes, in my opinion there is value in using a fresh single-purpose Google account not used for any other purpose apart from being the account attached to your Android devices (if you are going to attach an account at all). At a minimum it seems like a good approach for digital hygiene, and data minimization.
Short of just not using a Google Account whatsoever, I don’t think there is a clear right answer and wrong answer, I think there are multiple valid strategies depending on your priorities and the particulars of your situation. But personally I’ve prefer the fresh slate with a fresh account.
Thank you for the detailed insight, and good point about it not necessarily being a “burner”. I decided that I did want to make a fresh account, however I realized that there are some apps that I have paid for on my main account that I still need access to Ah well, I suppose I will have to remove information from my account instead. Thank you again for your help though!
