Android Might be Getting an iOS NameDrop Equivalent

Interoperability would be an excellent addition too. One less thing that differentiates.

Very nice even tho, I’m still to see anybody to ever use that feature in person. :joy:
Few people I showed the iOS one were mind-blown. :exploding_head:
But I guess it just takes some time to fully sink into society’s habits + doesn’t happen every day to have such need.

Good thing for us Android users anyway! :+1:t2:
Hopefully we can pick what is shared and not only the contact phone number.

Most people don’t know most things their smartphones can now do. It’s not about habits. It’s about the populous not being tech savvy/knowledgeable enough.

Also, we don’t have a big marketing keynote that would mimic Apple’s yearly event.
Especially because of Android’s fragmentation and the fact that people are busy selling AI more than useful small tiny incremental improvements. :man_shrugging:t2:

Somehow pen and paper writing down a number seems to be faster, more private and maybe secure as well, depending where you are.

I mean I bet you guys have NFC toggled off, so how many steps/clicks do you actually take before an actual transfer vs just writing it down

I am the old luddite man yelling at the cloud now

I’ve only ever used this feature on accident. In Japan I was trying to get someone to AirDrop me a file and I thought proximity might make it connect. She thought I was trying to get her contact info

Sneaky way for sure. :face_with_tongue: :joy:

There have been variations on this theme since forever. Haven’t seen any of them used in the wild.

Alice: Oh, I’ll just xyz my deets to you…
Bob: You what now?
Alice: Here, let me… Hmmm… What version… Hmmm… Did you turn on… Hmmm…
Alice: What’s your number? I’ll txt you.
