Affordable faraday bags?

Long ago I bought a cheap pocket-sized faraday pouch that eventually stopped blocking signals over time. The most recommended products I hear are from SLNT Silent Pocket but they cost an arm and a leg I don’t have. I checked other tested brands and found that EDEC OffGrid can’t fit modern sized phones and Mission Darkness has multiple verified Amazon reviews claiming it failed to block signals. Are there any cheaper faraday bags I could turn to?

tbh an easy method would be to purchase off of an online store with a return policy, test it out yourself, and then return it if it is not up to par.

I personally have 2 mission darkness (laptop and phone) and they work well. Phone was unreachable in both bags)

Faraday bags are a bit of a scam imho. What do you need it for? If you need it for a phone you could use a pixel with GrapheneOS and airplane mode.

This is the best answer. I use mission darkness and have made my own with their bulk fabric. Buy direct, not through amazon/walmart middlemen. MD is great for returns and customer service. I’m a happy customer and use them in enviroments where malware infections via RF is possible.

Most farady bags are scams.

Why not use a cheap metalic box, like a cholocat or cookies box ?

They work perfectly.

Yes:

Testing certifications:

My concern is with degradation over time. I suspect most cheap products get mostly positive reviews because people only test them when they first buy them and fail to realize months or years down the line that they no longer work.

They’re ineffective and aren’t portable enough.

I’m just nervous from the negative reviews they have but there may be no other option.

Thanks for sharing this link.

Your link show that a 38.8 to 43 Decibel reduction of signal 1 to 2 GHz.

How is that innefective ?

If that was a bad attenuation, how can microwave oven (2.4 GHZ) metal grid window be safe for use in our homes ?

I focus on product effectiveness, and even your critical external data supports my conclusion. Whether you interpret bombed and/or botted Amazon reviews seriously is your call to make.

And I quote from that Matt Blaze test:

At least in the frequency ranges I tested, two commercial Faraday pouches (the EDEC OffGrid and Mission Darkness Window pouches) yielded excellent performance sufficient to provide assurance of signal isolation under most real-world circumstances. None of the makeshift solutions consistently did nearly as well, although aluminum foil can, under ideal circumstances (that are difficult to replicate) sometimes provide comparable levels of attenuation.

Faraday Bags do attenuation, not complete blocking of RF. YMMV.

In order to achieve complete blocking of RF, we’re into TEMPEST and other government standards for RF mitigation (like the FCC’s testing apparatus).
