The right to repair foundation that Louis Rossmann is a part of, FULU, has sent their first call to action, and it’s to reform a piece of the DMCA that keeps people from fixing their own stuff or providing a solution in the market for people to fix their own stuff.
FULU will be in Washington this week to try to get the ball rolling on legislation, and we need to support them by blowing up the communication channels of your elected representatives.
I know this isn’t related to privacy, but there is a lot of overlap in the political interests of the right to repair and privacy communities, so I think we need to show solidarity and support this move. We need to inject as much energy as we can right now to amplify the strategic effect they’re looking for.
Privacy note: If you’d rather not use the site to send a letter with your personal details, consider calling your elected reps.
The main things you need to give are (1) your name, (2) your zip code, and (3) the opinion you are looking to leave for the rep. That will be enough for the office to actually take your note down for your rep.
What we want is for them to log that a constituent called about a specific issue, and then we want as many of people to call or write about that issue so that the office takes notice and tells their rep that there’s trouble a’brewin if the don’t make the right call on this issue. Pressure!
