Learning management platform Canvas has been affected by a data breach. 9000 educational institutions globally are affected by the breach. Cyber criminal asking for ransom and threatening to release student information. Data include student name, email, location, courses and chat history between users.
The group behind the attack, ShinyHunters, has not yet released the data publicly.
This is the downside of eliminating redundancy and over-centralizing! What a disaster.
I was fortunate enough to finish school before they introduced the whole every child must have a laptop thing. So much centralised data for no reason.
Also fortunately, my kids are homeschooled.
