Not a big deal imo, because there are plenty of other instances with bot protection disabled:
Depends on what instance you are using, I switched and never had this problem again. Even with a VPN.
Also 4get.ch is almost definitely under the Swiss legislation, the server is in France though, but probably because I assume OVH doesn’t have any Swiss servers. Probably near the French-speaking side of Switzerland.
For a meta-search engine, 4get definitely gets the job done. I’m going to ignore my bias against how the project is clearly in favor of 4chan.
Anyways, I would say 4get is a lot faster than searxng, as its a very slim project. Searxng has some old bones that it needs to maintain, and 4get is designed with simplicity in mind. Its also AGPL licensed, which I consider the best you can get for a FOSS web application.
However, even if searxng is a bit slower, maybe less reliable, (I don’t have numbers), I find that searxng has stronger i8n, or internationalization and localization. For our readers that have a different primary language than English, searxng is the better user experience in that regard. EDIT: I also believe searxng has a massive suite of engine integrations already built, so that is cool as well.
I’m neither for nor against listing it, but it should be second to searxng for the above reasons.
This seems pretty important given that 4chan is one of the most vitriolic and hateful websites on the internet. If 4get is pushing 4chan results to the top or raising their ranking in search, I don’t thibk PG aught to recommend this product.
I mean yes, but I don’t think the core 4get product has interest in doing that.
Also note that searxng allows maintainers to custom rank their own engines based on configurations - this is really an instance specific thing even if it were the case.
Personally I just don’t like the branding, and would be embarrassed to recommend to anyone and have them think of me as some 4chan user. Searxng doesn’t come with that reputation.

It would be nice if they had UI translation but there’s not much to translate honestly. As a user with a native language other than English, I only care about search results (although it helps I know some English), and I can get good results when searing in foreign languages. I can also select search region to fit my needs. PG itself doesn’t offer comprehensive translations which you can see by changing language on the main page, although I perfectly understand why.
It may be a bit early to list 4get, but I’m cautiously optimistic it could establish itself as a solid searx-ng alternative.
It doesn’t, really. From my (for now short-term) usage experience, it does nothing more than aggregates search results.
I had no idea it has anything to do with 4chan before reading this thread, and I don’t really care. There’s nothing that suggests that, except for the name I guess?
Generally, I think we shouldn’t form our opinion based on our biases towards the people behind the product but on the product itself.

I haven’t seen anyone saying 4get pushing 4chan results until this thread. Anyone has more concrete articles / reports / blogs about this?
It’s not even listed in one of their supported sites, that was just speculation and fear mongering. No need to entertain it.

My mistake, didn’t mean to spread untruthful info. I was simply worried that could be a possibility given the branding (I still personally dont trust it nonetheless)
Maybe it’s true. It’s also blocked by my nextdns when Block porn is on under Parent controls. Maybe need to check further on that.
