TLDW, calculating raw water use is complicated and it doesn’t help that AI companies are not transparently publishing their usage statistics. Further, Hank Green (the video author) draws attention to the significance of the location of potential water use and what strain is already placed on that location. Finally, a comparison is made between the estimated water use of AI data centers and agricultural production (specifically corn) to place these numbers into context a little better.
