# Veracrypt domain change

Veracrypt has changed it’s main domain from [veracrypt.fr](http://veracrypt.fr) to veracrypt.jp and brought by amcrypto.jp  
At first glance I thought the site was compromised but then I found this: [VeraCrypt / Forums / General Discussion: Brief Update - Temporary Inactivity](https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/general/thread/e34d4ee198/) announcing the change of domain and moving the operations to Japan.

When I visit [veracrypt.fr](http://veracrypt.fr) I get redirected to [veracrypt.io](http://veracrypt.io).

Weird choice to migrate from a cctld that require residency to another new cctld that require local presence. Basically both making it hard to maintain the domain ownership.
