The Israli model may be new, but the technology is not.

Stingray devices are **25** years old. Their are also new IMSI catchers being sold and develloped.

I’m probably preaching to the choir here, but I have to put this here for anyone getting into this for the first time.

_Law enforcement don’t need these devices to find the location of your phone. As long as you carry a phone that’s connected to the cellular network, they can locate it even if they didn’t use Stingrays / IMSI cathers._

All this does is cut out the middleman. Instead of having to subpoena the telecom companies, they can just do the tracking directly in the locations they wish to do so. But the original problem of the telecom companies knowing the location of your phone persists.

Even if you’re outside the operating range of these “dragnets,” the cellular network can find your phone if you’re connected to it, and thus your location can be acquired by law enforcement too. The defense is the same against both of these methods: keep your phone in Airplane Mode if you don’t want its location being leaked to the telecom companies & to law enforcement.

yes, but when they ask the cell phone company they need a warrant from a judge.

Thoses IMSI catcthers have been used by some police to monitor political activist without a proper warant, that the issue.
