# Upcoming Gemini for Android change sparks major privacy concerns

Google has sent emails to Android users warning that Gemini can view and access apps even if Gemini Apps Activity is turned off. In other words, it can access your text messages, WhatsApp history, and Utilities without explicit permission.

While Google has mentioned that users can turn this off per each app’s settings, it is not clear how they can do so in the email.

Are you frustrated by this level of settings fatigue? Google is using the burden of constant configuration to make it harder for folks to disable these horrible data collection settings.

For the average person, iOS is truly the only option left.

Only if there was a trusted company selling Pixels with GOS preinstalled for a very small fee if need be. It would make adoption so much easier.

There is Nitrokey if you want it preinstalled on a Pixel 8!

To be honest, my first point was about the anti-features on stock android. Graphene OS itself is quite straight forward and eliminates the hard part of degoogling manually

While reading the email, my understanding was that you had to remove it under the ‘Gemini’ app, which I don’t have.

Do you really have to do it on a per app basis?

Not sure. It’s not really clear what the email is referring to as “Apps Setting page”.

Proxy Store also sells GrapheneOS Pixels and ships to Europe I believe.

This article has been update to be a pro privacy move. They will still keep the data for up to 72 hours it seems for “safety”

Couldn’t you just delete (or disable?) the Gemini app from your phone?
