Thoughts about F-Droid redesign?

If you haven’t updated yet, here are some screenshots.

I don’t know, I don’t like that the update button is gone. Auto updates work quite well but I do like checking every day or so to see which apps are updated and check release notes.

The redesign seems to be pretty good. More intuitive layout. However, I do agree, that it would be better if the update button stayed the same. I also do manual checks on regular basis.

I got used to the old layout so this one feels counter intuitive

BTW, the screenshots should have been inversed. So an App overview first, then the categories.

How can I update the app so I get this update?

use F-Droid Basic (official but gets some feature first) and enable beta updates for it.

Thank you!

I’d say 50% of the time I use the app I want to search something and having to adjust how i hold my phone to reach the search button will be annoying.

Looks quite nice, I don’t see a real reason to replace what we have now.

Well, it looks more modern and less bloated.

I think it will be less scary for newcomers

I like the new Categories alot, in the old design you had to scroll for eternity if u wanted one special category.

If I were a newbie using F-Droid I’d probably enjoy this redesign, it feels more modern than the previous UI. But as a long FD user, and as some users pointed out the lack of the update button it gives it an… incomplete vibe?

I use Droid-ify and it recently started showing the total downloads per app. I wonder if that is an upstream func added in addition to the redesign

To this point, as a long time F-Droid user I relly heavily on search when using F-Driod. Moving such an important button out of thumbs reach and instead putting it at the top of the screen feels counter intuitive in a way.

After a long time of using FOSS software, when I presented with a nice UI I feel like something important is missing. Which is pretty funny to me

BTW, here is their blogpost detailing changes.

One of the biggest win is

improved search, also searching in descriptions and translations

this was always an headache, because some apps name don’t fit the “Name + description patter”
