# The new Pebble app is live on iOS and Android

The original developer of Pebble have released a new version of the Pebble app last month. After checking it out from yesterday’s blog post, I discovered that the permissions are not invasive whatsoever with very limited data collection. Still [closed source](https://ericmigi.com/blog/how-to-build-a-smartwatch-software-setting-expectations-and-roadmap#pebble-mobile-app) though.

The developer also endorsed Gadgetbridge as a good alternative to his own app if needed :innocent:

Excited to see how the new app compares to Gadgetbridge! Yet another review in the backlog to write :wink:

EDIT: No invasive perms according to the Play Store page. Its open source counterparts, [Gadgetbridge](https://gadgetbridge.org/gadgets/wearables/pebble/) and [Micropebble](https://github.com/matejdro/microPebble), have overall less data collection

Certainly a good thing, even if closed source. At least the library that powers it is open source!

Only the default mobile app from Core is closed source but it’s not a big deal because the rest is open (with alternative) so very much fine. :heart:
