There (almost) literally is no reason to not move to Linux from Windows anymore. The only friction point now is that the average person still being unsure and scared of even installing Linux on their PC and making sure everything works along with setting it up such that their Windows programs work too. But with a little effort, faith, and a sense of adventure - anyone can install Linux and start using it to learn more about how to use it better. I also want you to implore how easy some Linux distros are to use today: Mint, PopOS, ZorinOS, and Ubuntu. I’d even argue that Fedora is easy to use as almost everything can be done with the GUI. Also remind folks that there are always computer repair shops you can go to get any initial support you may need with installing Linux on your new or aging computer so you can save yourself from any potential headaches a novice may have with Linux at first. And would updating disable that feature and require me to create a windows account? I am very interested in Linux and wonder how to ensure security as what I’ve learned thus far is that security is an issue. Proton/dxvk/wine are just translation layers with overhead which are missing a lot of features. Average fps might not be far behind windows but things like 1% and 0.1% low fps, frame pacing, input lag, latency etc. are not close. Nvidia drivers are also complete trash on linux. A lot of stuff like auto hdr, frame gen, dlss, reflex and so on doesn’t work or barely works on linux. Valve is trying their best with gamescope but it’s still nowhere near enough. Especially if u have a 5090 and wanna play demanding games with path tracing like cyberpunk or indiana jones, just forget about linux. If u’re casual gamer playing stardew valley, then sure, u can use linux. Ur experience won’t be as good as on windows (or anywhere close), but for a casual gamer with low standards playing casual games, it gets the job done.
