It makes no sense that some say that AI is open, while at the same time, it is developed by big tech and is called a ‘black box’ by researchers all the time.
Traditional ‘open source’ community have nothing to do with AI, but various billionaires took this word and misuse for their own gains, confusing everyone what open source is really about.
“open weights” is better and accurate term to describe AI, to not confuse with open source.
The moderator refers to comment number 10, which had really insightful quotes from AI helping discussion (I also asked another AI to fact check second quote. It had some minor mistakes, but still very solid)
This is just a note. You have way more experience what is ok or not, and that is what policy is for. I am agnostic on this right now.
Tangential: As some people have been scaling up their usage or becoming entirely dependent on AI, I’ve decided to add an “GenAI usage disclosure” on my website. I’d encourage others in the space to declare their stance and/or usages on their sites too.
@Jonah wouldn’t the below be a much better solution then banning AI? I personally found the AI generated content in this topic to help the discussion and move it forward.
