The AI Doc: or How I Became an Apocaloptimist (2026) | AI DOCUMENTARY TRAILER

From the Academy Award®-winning filmmakers behind Everything Everywhere All at Once and Navalny; a father-to-be tries to figure out what is happening with all this AI insanity. The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist is a hand-made, eye-opening documentary about the most powerful technology humanity has ever created… and what’s at stake if we get it wrong.

Told through the perspective of filmmaker Daniel Roher as he prepares to become a father, the film investigates the existential threats and potential promises of artificial intelligence. Roher conducts interviews with leading experts in the field to understand the world his child will inherit, balancing anxiety with "apocaloptimism. - WIKIPEDIA

I am intrigued and extremely skeptical about the messaging of this documentary. What the hell is an apocaloptimist? I had to look it up. Apparently it’s someone who remains hopeflu about AI despite the threat is represents. Mmmk…

The simple fact that so many AI tech leaders agreed to participate makes me question if the filmmakers are actually going hard on them. I look forward to finding out if I’m right when it comes out in March.

Was very excited by the team that produced it. :star_struck:
Then saw that it is having all the mainstream CEOs like Altman, Dario etc…hence now I lost a lot of interest suddenly, looks like some long ad on a bigger screen?

Not sure what to think about it anymore.

I don’t necessarily have an issue with Altman and other leaders being featured, as long as they get hardball questions, and their answers are not accepted at face value. However, I fear that’s not gonna happen. I hope they get asked about the privacy implications, training AI on other people’s data without their permission, wasting so many resources like electricity and water to the point that entire cities raise their residents utility bills because data centers are hosted there, etc…

I hardly see how they would allow something to be released while being pictured in (very) bad/controversial lighting. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
If it’s gonna be a similar situation to what Cleo Abram did here or even MKBHD, then yeah it would be soft-balls and scripted the hell out. I don’t really see how it could be different tbh.

Hence, I’ll pass but thanks for sharing anyway. :light_blue_heart:

Assuming there were no off limits questions, and I don’t see why there would be, once the CEOs have agreed to the interview, there’s nothing they can do if they don’t like the result. Sure, they can ask or maybe even pressure the filmmakers not to include certain parts, but they can’t for them to. Also, if they succeed in persuading the filmmakers to exclusive certain things, that makes them bad filmmakers, IMO.

I am going off the assumption that I would find this documentary very disappointing. However, I still plan to watch it, unless reviews are so bad that it’s not worth it.

I’m not sure you have that much freedom in that industry to be allowed to just do with your own money and turn down an AI CEO’s money down, especially with the ripple effects of being carried in the dirt in their trail etc. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Please let us know, I might be interested as well.

I will.
