Saw a post about this on Reddit and wanted to hear what this community thinks. My initial reaction is it seems unneccasary to add sending off podcast downloads to a third party server, just to skip a few seconds of ads.

Sounds privacy invasive as F. Hard pass.  
Also, I’m dead set against AI getting into every aspect of my life.

Yes.

Also I think something similar is done with youtube frontends (like Piped, Pipepipe, NewPipe, etc) via something called SponsorBlock where it automatically skips and fast-forwards ads. AFAIK the timestamps that trigger these are crowdsourced/open sourced so there is no need to involve AI.
