The cryptocurrency wallet maker Ledge has confirmed that some devices sold through the reseller CryptoBilis were [implanted](https://x.com/Ledger/status/2109896739985453358) with a spy chip that would steal users' seed phrase and drain their wallets.

Nobody should use these anymore. Idc if it’s security by obscurity but you’re making yourself such a bigger target by using a device dedicated to storing crypto.

I’m not a crypto investor, but from the crimes I’ve seen targeting crypto holders, I’d imagine that people with significant holdings may want to think about security and privacy—both cyber and physical—(far?) beyond what an ordinary user might need. If someone could threaten me and my family at home, tamper with devices or services I rely on, or use leaked personal data to put me in danger, I’d want to feel prepared for those risks. Being caught off guard could bring some nasty surprises.

The problem is that in many cases crypto bros say this kind of cold wallet is the most private and secure thing, so people buy into the idea. It’s very similar to the Telegram case, where there’s a mass misconception that it’s somehow more secure than WhatsApp.

Something is very broken in how information spreads in this area, not sure why.
