Sms verification services (like sms pool, 5sim)

Does PG have a position on how to best create a private Apple/Google account?

I don’t know about apple.

But for google, if you don’t have old account (before sms was needed) it’s not that hard to skip it even on Android phone.

Is it confirmed that people can still create a new Google account on an Android without a phone number? If we can go through that, can we then set up 2FA with something like a Yubikey?

I guess I meant it’s a reasonable price for someone who doesn’t own a smart phone and still needs to receive 2FA SMS texts. I don’t like using cell phones because, even if you are using an anonymous burner SIM, the IMEI # of the phone gives up your location, allowing you to be triangulated to about 300 feet - this is the case even if you have no SIM at all in the phone. Phones with no SIM can still call 911 and be reverse located to a radius of about 300 feet in an urban area.

@SMSPool just noticed we could summon you about the Google verification issue  do you see any solutions in sight to SEND an SMS for the verification?

We aren’t actively working on a solution at the moment, however this issue is becoming slightly more common.

We suggest using a fresh browser session and a fresh residential IP address that matches the country’s numbers. This can sometimes bypass this and allows you to send an SMS instead rather than scanning the QR code and sending an SMS.

This is why some services like ours offer long-term rental phone numbers :slightly_smiling_face:

I would suggest getting your own sim if price is an issue though.

May I ask what the concern with Stripe is? No card payment processor prioritises privacy & we would always recommend depositing via XMR or Cash. It’s true we don’t allow financial services to prevent abuse and potential legal issues. However, you can still pay using Monero through our TOR .onion site.

We also offer UK long-term phone numbers for $55 for 360 days which are quite reasonable if price is a concern.

I understand, thanks. Appreciate you getting back so fast!

If you can actually, really pay anonymously with XMR on Stripe using Tor, then I have no concern. I’m just saying that from personal experience, many mainstream fintech companies like Stripe, when you connect from an onion address via Tor, let you enter all the info and then at the very last step give you an error message that “something went wrong, please try again later” every time. So if you can verify that your Stripe account doesn’t do that, then I think that’s great.

It’s not impossible to pay with card using Stripe on the Tor Browser, but many exit nodes have poor IP scores due to abuse and simply being Tor nodes. Therefore, it’s highly unlikely to work. No payment processor will explicitly allow Tor IPs for card payments, and honestly, I’m not sure what you’d gain from using Tor for a card payment. Your bank will already have a record of that transaction. It’s a bit like hiding your car in the garage after everyone on the street has seen you drive it in.

As far as I know there isn’t a Tor-friendly card payment processor available at the moment, we’re open to exploring a second payment processor for users who need it, though the fees would have to be reasonable or passed on to the customer. The reason card payment processors don’t allow or advertise Tor support is simple. If the merchant gets a chargeback they’ve most likely already lost the case based on that alone.

If you have any recommendations, please do let us know.

FYI Stripe only supports card payments, they do not support crypto currencies.

The cellphone company don’t just triangulate you, they do to all their consumers.

So, you just drop in an ocean unless they colaborate with police force, ICE or other that use an IMSI catcher, that will not allow them to identify you.

For my threat model, having a burner phone is ok in my case. I guess you may have an exterme threat model.

Not if I’m using a Vanilla VISA gift card. That’s the scenario I meant to describe.

Agreed

theres definitely too much emphasis on the recommendations instead of the criteria throughout this thread.

We have no influence over Stripe or any third party payment processor blocking TOR nodes.

There are a few sites you can try.
You can use felixmerchant.com if you want numbers without registering on the site.
Wantsms.com offers good long-term rental options and temporary numbers from different countries.
