Revolut Gave Customer Data to Scammers After Fake Government Requests

Revolut handed over highly personal and sensitive customer data, including passports, verification selfies, IBANs, and Bitcoin transaction records, to scammers after they sent requests through a government agency email domain.

The email that notified affected accounts states “Your account remains secure”.

I’ve send a mail to Revolut regarding this case. Asking the following:

Please confirm if this breach impacted my account. If my data was compromised, I request the following information:

  • Which specific data points (e.g., personal details, transaction history, card info) were accessed?

  • What immediate steps do I need to take to secure my account?

  • Will Revolut be providing identity theft protection or monitoring services for affected users?

Regrettably, they did not respond to my email and directed me to the built-in chat app for “additional support,” which led to a conversation with AI. After some exchanges, I finally connected with a support representative in the chat. However, instead of addressing my inquiry, they repeatedly asked me to review my transaction history and whether I had shared my personal information with anyone. They outright declined to confirm if my data had been compromised.

That sucks, Revolut have been going downhill fast.

Wize is not much better though

Yes, I only use them for fast online transactions with Visa. I’m not sure if there are any better alternatives.

Giftcards? Mastercard or Visa?
