replacing android's system webview

spent some hours looking into the subject and emerged with only a throbbing headache. i have not seen a single explanation that goes from start to finish, assumes no prior knowledge, and is coherently written.

also, are there any dangers associated with doing this? privacyguides advises against rooting a phone, and that does seem to be part of the process. maybe. i truly don’t know.
