# Remove PrivacyBlur

I’m reviving this because I noticed another reason that makes further recommendation of PrivacyBlur questionable: Updates, or the lack thereof.

PrivacyBlur is available for [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mathema.privacyblur), [F-Droid](https://f-droid.org/packages/de.mathema.privacyblur/) and [Apple App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/privacyblur/id1536274106). There’s also a [Website](https://privacyblur.app/) and a [GitHub Repo](https://github.com/MATHEMA-GmbH/privacyblur) with the last commit being made [on Feb 15 2022](https://github.com/MATHEMA-GmbH/privacyblur/commits/main).

This is of course a very long time to go by without activity.  
Frankly, it’s been abandoned for **at least** 19 months.

I said _at least_ because the iOS version was dropped even before that:

- **v2.1.6-full** from **Jan 10 2022** was the last update on Play Store
- **v2.1.6-foss** managed to find its way to F-Droid on **Jan 18 2022**
- Meanwhile the last update in the App Store was **v2.1.2** from **Jun 29 2021**

That was more than two years or about 28 months ago.

**TLDR We all need to be very careful not to rush this, but it might be time to start rethinking this[\*](https://www.privacyguides.org/en/data-redaction/#privacyblur) recommendation**
