So it’s a Signal fork, subtract MobileCoin, add Lighting.
Hopefully once they get a bunch of Lightning users using it, they add Monero support.

I think it’s good if it gets more people using cryptocurrency. Lightning is more private than Venmo or any online banking transfer.
Idk why people aren’t happy about a p2p privacy respecting money app. Have you seen how many people have trouble with banking apps on GrapheneOS because of banks security theatre? Banking privacy is nonexistant.
iMessage has Apple cash built in which lets people send money to eachother.
I can get someone to download Signal a lot easier than I can get them to download a crypto wallet.

The problem is the banking system is terrible for freedom and privacy. Tons of people get debanked on either side of the political aisle. Banks share tons of data with the government and file reports on people if they look suspicious. It’s mass surveillance. Instead of getting a warrant to spy on individuals, they spy on everyone all the time looking for illegal activity.
The solution here is that you get a popular messenger so it’s a useful app, and then more private money.
Lightning isn’t as good as Monero for privacy, but it’s better than a bank/p2p app like venmo/paypal.

Why is that a solution to the suggested problem? The only people using this will be people already in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Why would it? You either already use Lightning enough to think this app is something you will actually use or you won’t use this app.
Because it’s not a money app. It’s a chat app, with money bolted on in a way that no one asked for.
Yeah but this isn’t Signal (the app) and is firmly in the crypto wallet side of that equation.
Why would they? People who use Lightning like this are probably Bitcoin maxis (I would know, I’m one of them)

Monero won’t be supported, at least not soon, because the synchronization takes too long.

I think the idea is that you embed the transaction in the chat and can quickly send your friends or people you trade with, money

I’ve also been a bit dubious about integrating money exchange into a chat application. It seems like an odd combination. I guess it makes it easier to send the money to the right person? Still very odd to me.
Choosing Bitcoin Lightning is pretty annoying.
