Questions on Using a VPN as a Creator

I want to create and publish media online, but I want to hide my full name and face from the general public (potentially from companies as well, alongside lowering the tracking the do).

For extra protection, I am planning on using a VPN to hide my IP address with some of the platforms, but doesn’t this seem overkill for just what I’m trying to do? If do I decide on a VPN, there’s two platforms that I plan on using that will stick out: Discord and Stripe.

Discord has many online communities I would like to share my work with, but Discord is obviously not the most privacy friendly platform in the world. I’m worried about trouble occurring with VPNs (like being IP banned from a server). In addition, I already have a Discord account which I was planing to converting one where share my work and I lowered my guard down with that (using official app, no VPN), so does it make sense start making sense to use a VPN and use the webapp with blockers with this account?

There’s also a webpage where people can donate to me, but I have give my identity to my payment processor. I’m gonna have to disable a VPN and give my identity when setting up a payment processor with a donation page anyway, and it seems like I can try using billing descriptors to hide my full name from donators.

If you use the same old discord account, then no it’s too late.

Was there ever a point to using a VPN on Discord? What about using a VPN platforms I’ve yet to use? Remember, all I’m trying to do is keep my full name and face hidden from my audience and the public.

Remember, I used Discord w/o a VPN and I have to disable one for Stripe.

vpn does not hide your name or face. it only hides the ip. stripe kyc is the identity leak, billing descriptors just change what donators see on the charge.

julie is right on the old discord. that account already has your home ip, turning a vpn on it now does not rewind that. a vpn on discord is for a fresh account so they dont get the house ip. they still hate datacenter ranges tho. nord, express, mullvad all get random server bans. i bounced around those and ended up on stealth.online. same story, discord still flakes. browse.stealth.online if you want the browser side not just chrome+vpn.

for platforms you have not used yet, vpn is not overkill if you care about companies tying the ip to you. just leave it off for stripe signup. keep the old discord as-is or make a new one, dont mix.
