Obscura VPN

Try it on iOS and you will find out fairly swiftly

What are they? We’d love to get them fixed!

I use the iOS App daily, so perhaps it’s a codepath that I haven’t managed to hit.

Do we have plan for addition a lite plan such as for 1 or 2 devices for lower price? (the same as Malwarebytes VPN) It will make Obscura VPN increase more users. I also want to try and join for a long term if possible but $8/month is very high for me. I think many people is also consider about price.

I don’t mean to sound rude (and I have no skin in the game whatsoever), but have you tried Obscura for one month already, or do you wish to jump right in and go for it long term? Given that Mullvad is charging $5.76 a month, I wonder if cheaper options are feasible.

I just hope jump right and can join for a long. Malwarebytes VPN (partner of Mullvad) have option for 1 device or 3 devices that is sale off for first 1 or 2 years option and it is lower than Mullvad (5 devices). I know it is not much, but with low income country (as me), that is a main point to consider.

Dear @obscuracarl ,

Do you have any idea for lite plan that support single device for lower price above? (looks like Malwarebytes - partner of Mullvad)

Thanks,

I’ll be honest we really don’t have plans for that right now. Things can change if we see more demand for the lite plan though!

Dear @obscuracarl ,

Thank you for your feedback.

@obscuracarl Hi Carl. I really enjoy Obscura, it’s got the best Obfuscation out of any VPN I’ve tried. Just for feedback, 2 features I would like to see most in Obscura are…

  1. A full network lockdown mode for MacOS.

  2. A browser extension to allow granular per tab/site bypassing of the VPN tunnel or proxying as required.

Are either of those, or anything like them, on your roadmap?

It really means a lot to the team and me to hear that! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

This is definitely coming, will be our team’s focus after shipping Android, Windows, and Linux. I can message you personally if you want to test early versions of it!

If you mean something that’s more than the already-existing On-Demand killswitch then yeah it’s on our roadmap, main question is which API to use (NEFilterPacketProvider vs pf), I’ll keep you posted too.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I would be happy to test an early version of the browser extension, please feel free to get in touch.

Yes I was thinking of something similar to Mullvad’s current implementation where you can stop all network traffic until connected to the VPN.

Hand off from wifi to mobile data for example is broke.

Could you describe what’s broken in particular? As in, what are you seeing?

We’ve tested this quite thoroughly and have specific code to handle this. I also do this every day without issue.

Feel free to reply here, DM me, or email our support, we’ll catch it either way!

Support never replies.

On iOS, whenever the phone moves out of Wi-Fi range and automatically switches to 4G/5G, the Obscura VPN disconnects and does not reconnect automatically. The user has to reconnect it manually every time if they remember otherwise they have no working data connection at all.

Other VPNs don’t have this problem. This issue has existed since day one and has never been resolved. May be sort out your iOS / MacOS apps first and then work on other apps.

We endeavor to read every email that gets sent to reply, if you let us know what email you sent it from, we can find it and look.

That’s quite frustrating, it’s not been my experience so far, and I move between WiFi and 5G many times a day. That’s why your device’s failure is extra interesting to us, and we’d love to help you diagnose.

Let us know what email you’re sending messages from, and we can take it from there. CC: @davidcollini

Funny

Dear @obscuracarl ,

Does Obscura have any plan to support Specific Exit Server? Such as I would like to select an Owner server of Mullvad ( not rent ).

Thanks,

Yes that is being tracked! Though focus is on Windows and Linux platforms right now

Cool. Thank you for your feedback, @obscuracarl .

Obscura is unreliable on iOS and instead they’re busy rolling out on other platforms and on iOS they are rolling out design tweaks.
