Thank you. In terms of how nym works compared to a traditional multi hop setup
If ones uses nym to connect to lets say their bank using this system would the second node have to be in the same country? Because I would assume if the second node was in a seperate country it may cause concerns?
Hi, we’ve had several people ask for this feature. Right now we’re focused on app stability, making onboarding smoother and adding in-app payments. It’s on our radar. No timeline yet, but we’re keeping track of these requests.
What do you mean?
If your bank has location restrictions, you’ll want to choose an exit node in the right country to get through their geo-checks. Your entry node can be anywhere, though picking something closer will give you better speed and lower latency.
Thanks for clarifying. With the promotional pricing being $2.59 for 24 months + Tax will it revert to normal pricing after 24 months? Also when does this offer end?
I don‘t know if that has already been asked, but what stops an attacker to just create hundreds of servers which can capture your traffic? AFAIK that‘s one of Tor‘s biggest problems in terms of security.
EDIT: Now that I‘m already talking about servers. Does Nym run its own servers or is it completely relying on the community?
It’s $2.59 (+ tax) per month if you go with the 2-year plan. The early bird pricing ends August 30th. We’ve made significant improvements since launch and expect connectivity to be even more stable by then.
Our approach: Limit bad actors through community management and a reputation system. Then minimize their impact through multi-hop routing by default plus letting users choose and rotate entry/exit gateways. We’ve got additional protections planned as well (detecting attacks, using secure hardware).
Nym’s goal is to be fully decentralized and community-run. Right now we’re operating 5 nodes (of 200+) for testing and continuous improvement: Austria, Bahrain, Italy, Switzerland, South Africa. They’re clearly labeled nymtech so you can easily avoid them if you prefer community-operated nodes only.
I have a use case where I use a glueton Docker container to have some of my services route through my existing VPN. Not sure if you are able to see if that works, or provide first class support for that repo.
Good point! We’ve had this on our backlog for a while but other things kept taking priority. Right now the web team is heads-down on fixing onboarding and improving the overall site experience, but we’ll definitely revisit this over the summer.
Hi Nym! I just found out about the offer today, and was wondering if I can get a timeframe/date on when the offer ends, since I had gone two weeks without knowing.
Our early bird pricing runs until the end of August.
PS: Fresh out of the oven - NymVPN now accepts shielded Zcash payments! We’re the first real-world use case for shielded Zcash thanks to the latest BTCPay Server update. (BTCPay Server is the open-source, self-hosted, non-custodial payment gateway we use for crypto payments.)
Question, if I buy 2 year package now, will this discount continue after renewal time or do I have to pay 310,80 USD after two years? If it is the latter, this makes your product the most expensive VPN on the market
Hi @Bhaelros, if you buy the 2-year plan today, it won’t auto-renew - we don’t have that turned on yet for nym.com purchases. We’ll give you a heads up when we turn it on: Coming soon for iOS in-app purchases, then late Q3 for Play Store and nym.com.
When auto-renewals do go live, here’s what to expect:
We’ll tell you the renewal price upfront when you sign up.
Both 1-year and 2-year plans will renew annually (1-month plan will renew monthly).
Renewal pricing will still be cheaper than monthly rates.
If there are better deals available when your plan expires, you can always buy a plan on a new “account”, and reconnect your devices to take advantage of them.
That means, I have to check for prices and discounts all the time. It would be better if you did same thing as Windscribe. When you subscribe to them, the price that you paid for is valid indefinitely, unless you cancel or change your plan yourself. I am paying 19 USD per year for example, instead of regular 69 USD. Same for their DNS service Control D. I am paying 10 USD per year instead of 40.
@nym-product I was looking at your roadmap, lots of exciting stuff, as soon as you implement ad/tracker blocking and I can block mobile game ads I probably wont need any other VPN! Now that you accept Zcash I might get a two year subscription to support the project.
Got it! I’ll make sure our Marketing folks see this feedback.
Absolutely! We’ve been heads-down on app stability and quality, but we’re getting back to new features this summer. The ad blocker will likely work through custom DNS settings, so you can pick whichever blocklists you prefer.
Thanks for the reply! If you guys are welcome to suggestions, I would like to see Auto-Connect/Reconnect, Always Require VPN, and Lockdown mode be worked soon after Censorship resistance stage 2. I would probably make this my main VPN if done. It just helps me feel more secure.
