# NextcloudPi Trustworthy?

Is [NextcloudPi](https://github.com/nextcloud/nextcloudpi) trustworthy – or pre-configured operating systems at all? I am considering buying a Raspberry Pi for hosting Nextcloud, and this development seems to provide a simple implementation for it. Is it safe to trust the software _without extensively testing it to find any malware_ since the developers could have included malware in the operating system?

Yes. I don’t have any reason to be suspicious of this, but I feel like it is safe to consider this since any developer who makes an implementation for a software can add something like this to their software.

Also, a good measure sometimes is the look at the number of stars a project has. If it has enough stars and the project is old enough, it should be a trustworthy tool to use.

I know. I get it.. OP may not. Like I said, a beginner using an ELI5 tag. More exposition than normal is warranted as they may also be new to Github.

They might be a beginner, but I wouldn’t assume they’re not capable of knowing what GitHub is if 1) they directly linked to it and 2) they know what a Raspberry Pi is. They are new to privacy, not new to life.
