New Member Self Introduction (MrNCatLover) ^w^

Greetings Privacy Lovers, Big-Tech Haters and Developers,

My name is Neil Oliver, but you can just call me MrNCatLover. I am new to well.. everything with privacy and at the time of writing this, am just done finishing the Privacy Guides.

You can see my profile for what I am interested in, but it is Public Exposure, Passive Attacks and Anonymity. (I just copied the categories, was not sure what else to call it).

I will leave you all with this, with the topics I just listed above, what are some tips you have to get me started? Past what I will read in privacyguides.net!

Best,
Neil Oliver

People don’t generally self dox themselves here. But welcome to the forum!

Welcome! A good start is to browse through the forum’s about page and guidelines, if you haven’t already.

Hello Nostromo,

That would be a good thing to do, but I hate to say that my real name is, in fact, not Neil Oliver. I appreciate your kind words for my privacy!

Best,
Neil Oliver

Hello Pine,

I have looked through there already, thank you for the suggestion though!

Why sign off under a fake name when you already have a username? Also under preferences you can set your name there so it shows up when you post, if you don’t want to add a signature to each reply.

Hello @anonymous549,

I guess you are correct, it is redundant. You say in the features of this website I can setup my name after every post, can I have a custom signature?

For me though, leaving a signature is a personal choice, as it is how I carry myself professionally. I don’t see a reason I can’t take the same level of professionalism to this forum.

Its not really a signature. The name will show up beside your username. Here is @jonah for example…

Different strokes for different folks, you do you.

Greetings @anonymous549,

Thank you for presenting me with the options, but I will stick with how I currently post on this site.

Kudos for that! Just want to emphasize the guideline of “Keep it tidy”, including:

Don’t sign your posts — every post has your profile information attached to it.

This doesn’t just make threads easier to read through in the moment, but also helps preserving threads for future users looking for answers in these threads.

Not meant admonishingly, but rather because you’re seeking advice on how to best get started here.

It’s very weird to see someone sign every post like an email. Makes no sense to me.

OP: you’re new here. Please familiarize yourself with the forum protocols. This forum will be welcoming. Just don’t be weird or you’ll get called out. We are a critical bunch (or can be sometimes)

Thank you for pointing this out to me @pine, I apologize for that not registering with me sooner. I have adjusted and will continue in the correct fashion for the customs on this forum.

Just leave that poor guy be and let him write his name under every of his posts if he wants. There are certainly people on this forum doing worse things than that.

Welcome from me @MrNCatLover. Don’t let those people get to you.

I understand now as @pine pointed out to me, it is not supposed to happen on this forum. I will do my best to try and fit in, as I am here to ask some questions and learn. I am not hard struck in my ways, and this seems to be a good resources.

It would be in violation of a forum rule. Only reason why it’s being pointed out.

That’s a great attitude to have. Ask any questions and keep learning.
