You don’t need to necessarily. Bitwarden integrates with the popular email aliasing services and you can use the excellent [Quacky browser extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/qwacky/kieehbhdbincplacegpjdkoglfakboeo) or the [Raycast plug-in](https://www.raycast.com/Hugo-Persson/duckduckgo-email). Sadly no way to label aliases or track what each alias is supposed to be used for but I guess this is because DuckDuckGo envisages that you use the service in combination with their built-in password manager.

I wish Tuta and other email clients provided native integrations to allow sending from these email addresses as well. Bonus if you could also associate an alias with a certain contacts to ensure you always contact them using that alias. That would allow email aliasing to be used not only to protect your data from services but other people (whose contact stores could also be swept up by data hungry services).

Here’s some [additional research of mine](https://discuss.privacyguides.net/t/duckduckgo-email-protection-aliasing-service/12386/91) regarding the DuckDuckGo Email Protection service if anyone is interested. Super underrated service and I think Privacy Guides should add it to its recommendations, especially given that it’s the only really viable free option. It’s just too bad DuckDuckGo seem uninterested in adding any new features.

> If you deactivate an alias, I’m not even sure there’s a way to switch it back on?

You can but I guess only [if you have an existing email message linked to that alias or if you use DuckDuckGo’s password manager.](https://duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/email-protection/duck-addresses/can-i-reactivate-a-deactivated-private-duck-address) But since the latter has to talk to some API endpoint, there should probably be a way to enable the reactivation of an email address even if you don’t have an email message linked to it. Maybe something @omar can look into?
