Mullvad browser or Tor browser?

to be clear mullvad+trusted vpn

do you think theyre the same just with/without tor? or do you like one better

and does “new identity” do the same thing in both browsers?

I use both, basically mullvad browser for when tor exits are blocked, or when download speeds are important.

Be sure to enable random mode in the mullvad extension if you are going for the “tor-lite” approach.

Mullvad Browser is NOT a replacement for Tor Browser.

do they have different pros and cons and are for different threat models or is one just better

Even better, the Browser recommendation page covers well the distinction of Mullvad browser to Tor:

Mullvad brings good privacy without the network-performance toll, while Tor pushes the privacy further at the cost of performance.

I’m probably going to be crucified for saying this since Mullvad Browser is the browser recommended by Privacy Guides for great privacy, but honestly, I don’t use it. I didn’t find it to be a good fit for my workflow (or threat model). It isn’t really practical for logging into accounts, and I find its privacy measures a bit too restrictive for general day-to-day browsing.

LibreWolf does a decent job of providing strong privacy without as much of Mullvad’s friction. For anonymity, I use Tor.

thanks
