I’m on step 1.5 - disable all privacy invasive settings, and have a DNS blocker on network.
Ehhh my tv was due for an upgrade anyways. It had a like 720p screen and I couldnt play my ps5 properly
Another video about this.
Just a heads up if you’re privacy conscious, you should delete everything after the “?” or “&” (depending on link format - basically all the crap that isn’t the video ID) when pasting YouTube links. When I clicked on this, it literally said “Sent by (your username on YouTube)” and asked if I want to enable DMs. You’re also now permanently on my “share” menu. Nice of them…
The other layer of defence for this is in the YouTube privacy settings “channel visibility for shared links” which they kindly snuck in and defaulted to ON.
For what it’s worth mine was on too, dread to think how many links are out there exposing my YouTube alias to other aliases - oh well. Normally I remember to strip the identifiers if only because they look untidy but nobody is perfect.
ETA: reading around, it seems that it doxxes the usernames of all the viewers who click the link too. That fucking site man
Thanks for the warning. Will pay more attention to it and turn it off.
I ended up disconnecting my LG TV from the internet and connecting it to my Linux PC via HDMI.
Mind that at least on Windows LG also installs AdWare via the drivers that are installed when you connect it to your device. https://cybernews.com/security/lg-monitors-pushing-mcafee-ads/
That incident is what led to further investigation and the video I posted at the start
